A bill to amend 1978 PA 368, entitled

"Public health code,"

(MCL 333.1101 to 333.25211) by adding part 173A.

the people of the state of michigan enact:

PART 173A. MEDICAL ASSISTING

Sec. 17351. (1) As used in this part:

(a) "Chiropractor" means that term as defined in section 16401.

(b) "Licensed practitioner" means any of the following:

(i) A physician.

(ii) A physician's assistant.

(iii) A nurse practitioner.

(iv) A chiropractor.

(v) An optometrist.

(vi) A podiatric physician.

(c) "Nurse practitioner" means an individual licensed as a registered professional nurse under part 172 who has been granted a specialty certification as a nurse practitioner by the Michigan board of nursing under section 17210.

(d) "Optometrist" means that term as defined in section 17401.

(e) "Physician" means that term as defined in section 17001 or 17501.

(f) "Physician's assistant" means an individual who is licensed as a physician's assistant under part 170, part 175, or part 180.

(g) "Podiatric physician" means that term as defined in section 18001.

(h) "Practice of medical assisting" means the performance of clinical and administrative tasks under the supervision of a licensed practitioner.

(i) "State licensed medical assistant" means an individual who is licensed or otherwise authorized under this article to engage in the practice of medical assisting.

(2) In addition to the definitions of this part, article 1 contains general definitions and principles of construction applicable to all articles in this code and part 161 contains definitions applicable to this part.

Enacting section 1. This amendatory act does not take effect unless Senate Bill No.____ or House Bill No. 5417 (request no. 01272'23) of the 102nd Legislature is enacted into law.
