MCL 15.263a

BRIEF RATIONALE

Prohibiting remote meetings is expensive for many public bodies and decreases the likelihood of public participation. According to testimony, public bodies that represent organizations with members across Michigan may have significant financial expenses to attend a centralized, in-person meeting. Additionally, individuals are more likely to attend an in-person meeting if they are able to attend without driving a long distance. Tuning in to a meeting held over the telephone or over a video conference could increase transparency and public participation because people could attend the meeting more reliably.
