A bill to amend 1979 PA 152, entitled

"State license fee act,"

by amending section 4 (MCL 338.2204), as amended by 2021 PA 23.

the people of the state of michigan enact:

Sec. 4. (1) The department shall waive the fee for an initial a license or initial registration that is otherwise required under this act, or an application processing fee charged by the department for an initial a license or initial registration, if the applicant meets 1 of the following requirements:

(a) Is actively serving in the armed forces or the uniformed services.

(b) Is an individual who served meets all of the following requirements:

(i) Served in the armed forces or uniformed services. and he or she provides

(ii) Separated from his or her service in the armed forces or uniformed services not more than 5 years before the date of application for a license or registration.

(iii) Provides to the department a form DD214, form DD215, or any other form that is satisfactory to the department that demonstrates he or she was separated from that his or her service with an honorable character of service or under honorable conditions (general) character of service.

(2) The department shall waive the fee for an initial license or initial registration that is otherwise required under this act, or an application processing fee charged by the department for an initial license or initial registration, if the applicant meets both of the following requirements:

(a) (c) Is a dependent of a any of the following individuals:

(i) A member of the armed forces. , a dependent of a

(ii) A member of the uniformed services. , or a dependent of a

(iii) A veteran and he or she provides who separated from his or her service in the armed forces not more than 5 years before the applicant's date of application for an initial license or initial registration.

(b) Provides proof acceptable to the department that he or she is a dependent as described in this subdivision.of an individual listed in subdivision (a).

(3) (2) As used in this section:

(a) "Armed forces" means that term as defined in section 103 of the occupational code, MCL 339.103.

(b) "Dependent" means that term as defined in section 104 of the occupational code, MCL 339.104.

(c) "Uniformed services" means that term as defined in section 105 of the occupational code, MCL 339.105.

(d) "Veteran" means that term as defined in section 1 of 1965 PA 190, MCL 35.61.
