SUMMARY OF HOUSE-PASSED BILL
IN COMMITTEE
House Bill 4540 (as passed by the House)
Sponsor: Representative Tyrone Carter
House Committee: Government Operations
Senate Committee: Regulatory Reform
CONTENT
The bill would amend the Michigan Commission on Law Enforcement Standards Act

authority under the Metropolitan Transportation Authorities Act.

FISCAL IMPACT
The bill would have an indeterminate fiscal impact on the Michigan Commission on Law Enforcement Standards (MCOLES). Adding transit police officers to the statutory definition of law enforcement officer would require MCOLES to develop appropriate licensing and ongoing regulation processes for the several dozen expected new licensees, at a cost that cannot be determined at this time.
