TOLLING FEASIBILITY REPORT; MODIFY DATE S.B. 871:
SUMMARY OF INTRODUCED BILL
IN COMMITTEE
Senate Bill 871 (as introduced 2-10-22) (Senate-passed version)
Sponsor: Senator Wayne A. Schmidt
Committee: Transportation and Infrastructure
CONTENT
The bill would amend the Michigan Transportation Fund law to extend, from July 8, 2022, to January 31, 2023, the date by which the Michigan Department of Transportation (MDOT) would have to deliver a written report on a feasibility study and strategic implementation plan concerning the tolling of highways in the State.
The law requires MDOT to engage an outside consulting firm to conduct a feasibility study and strategic implementation plan on tolling highways of the State, including revenue projections based on an analysis of optimal tolling rates, vehicle counts and types by state of registration, and traffic diversion. The Department must deliver a written report on the feasibility study and strategic implementation plan by July 8, 2022, to the Governor, the Senate Majority Leader, the Senate Minority Leader, the Speaker of the House of Representatives, the Minority Leader of the House of Representatives, the chairpersons of the Senate and House standing committees on transportation, and the Senate and House appropriations subcommittees on transportation. The bill would require MDOT to deliver the written report by January 31, 2023.
