“Heavenly Father, as we come together in this room, from various backgrounds and belief systems, we pray for Your guidance and ask You to allow us the opportunity to have a productive session today. I ask that You watch over my fellow House friends and colleagues during these trying times, and to help them find the best solutions to issues affecting Michigan families. I pray that You help us resolve any disputes gracefully, and with the best intentions in mind.

I would also like to put a special mention out and ask You to watch over our first responders and military members as they work to keep our communities, families, and nation safe. Whether they serve nearby or across oceans, I ask that You be their comfort and their guide as they bravely serve to protect us.

For this we pray, in Jesus’s name, Amen.”

Motions and Resolutions

Reps. Albert, Breen, Hope and Koleszar offered the following resolution:

House Resolution No. 35.

A resolution to declare February 18, 2021, as Conductive Education Day in the state of Michigan.

Whereas, Conductive Education (CE) was developed over seventy years ago in Hungary by Dr. András Pető. CE is a unique teaching system that maximizes the independence and mobility of children and adults with neuromotor disabilities, such as stroke survivors and those with cerebral palsy, multiple sclerosis, acquired brain injuries, Parkinson’s disease and spina bifida; and

Whereas, CE operates from a core belief in neuroplasticity, the lifelong ability of the brain to reorganize neural pathways based on new experiences, and on the premise that no matter how severe the disability, people can learn and improve when they are motivated; and

Whereas, CE has the potential to make a significant, life-changing impact on the mobility and independence of close to 9 million people in the United States and Canada. CE helps individuals learn their way to independence; now, therefore, be it

Resolved by the House of Representatives, That the members of this legislative body declare February 18, 2021, as Conductive Education Day in the state of Michigan. We encourage support for this important program that increases the independence of people with disabilities in our community; and be it further

Resolved, That a copy of this resolution be transmitted to the Association for Conductive Education in North America with our highest esteem.

The question being on the adoption of the resolution,

The resolution was adopted.

Reps. Posthumus, Brixie, Breen, Haadsma, Hope, Koleszar, Liberati, Morse, Rabhi, Rogers and Sneller offered the following resolution:

House Resolution No. 36.

A resolution to declare February 22, 2021, as Supermarket Employee Day in the state of Michigan.

Whereas, There are nearly six million supermarket employees in the United States. In Michigan, there are 140,941 food retail jobs that generate $11.6 billion in economic activity; and

Whereas, Supermarket employees provide all Americans with access to safe, healthy, and affordable food. They work to enhance the health and well-being of each customer; and

Whereas, Supermarket employees face unprecedented challenges keeping grocery shelves stocked during the COVID-19 pandemic. They have and continue to meet and exceed these challenges while displaying courage, compassion, dedication, and leadership, as well as exemplifying customer service and community outreach; and

Whereas, Supermarket employees contribute and volunteer countless hours in their communities. The need for them is greater than ever because of current and growing consumer demands as well as their reputation for excellence; now, therefore, be it

Resolved by the House of Representatives, That the members of this legislative body declare February 22, 2021, as Supermarket Employee Day in the state of Michigan. We ask all citizens to join in honoring our frontline supermarket heroes.

The question being on the adoption of the resolution,

The resolution was adopted.
