STATE OF MICHIGAN
Journal of the Senate
100th Legislature
REGULAR SESSION OF 2020
Senate Chamber, Lansing, Wednesday, December 23, 2020.
11:30 a.m.
The Senate was called to order by the President, Lieutenant Governor Garlin D. Gilchrist II.
The President, Lieutenant Governor Gilchrist, offered the following invocation:
Dear Lord in heaven, we thank You for this day. We thank You for the day that You have made. We thank you for our ability to rejoice and be glad in it. We are thankful for all of those who serve. We recognize that service to our brethren, to humanity, and to the people of this state comes in many forms, and this year we have called upon those who serve in ways that we have not seen in our lifetimes. We are thankful for those who help people, regardless of whether they get credit. We are thankful for those who have stood strong and courageous during these challenging times this year to keep people safe, healthy, fed, and taken care of. We are thankful for all of those who have answered the call to help, whether it was in a time of emergency, in a time of desperation, or in a time of need; we thank them for stepping up and always choosing to be there for their fellow Michiganders.
We are thankful for all of those who have been elected or appointed to public service. We are thankful that they have taken their roles seriously, that they have approached them with integrity, and that we will always seek to serve our people by being responsive to their needs, their demands, and the challenges of our day. We are thankful now for the partnership we have forged this year—the ties that bind us together as Michiganders—as a people who will move forward and be able to overcome any challenge that confronts us.
As we look to the next year, we look to that year with our eyes open wide, our hearts open wide, and our ears ready to listen so that we can respond to the needs of all of those who we serve. We thank You for these, and all other blessings. In Jesus’ name. Amen.
The President, Lieutenant Governor Gilchrist, led the members of the Senate in recital of the Pledge of Allegiance.
