Dear Heavenly Father, I pray that You would this day bestow almighty
discernment on the men and women gathered in this chamber. You hold all
authority and yet You rescind some of that authority to those in this room.
You showed us love and taught that to lead is to follow, to gain is to
sacrifice, and to live is to die to self. You sacrificed for the whole world;
You sacrificed for Michigan. So let our leaders gathered today see the
residents of this state with that same sacrificial love and rule in a manner
that places their best interests to the forefront. To the men and women that
You allow to be in these seats in this season at this hour, I give You thanks
and ask for personal blessing upon them and their families.
We pray for peace so that our military will not unnecessarily be placed
in harm’s way, but if a righteous call requires our brave men and women to
action, we pray for their protection. We pray for discernment for our President
and Congress to know the difference. We pray, from the local level to the
national, for a trustworthy government so that we who are citizens may easily
be trusting of their work. In Your sovereignty, God, would You bless Michigan
as we in Michigan bless You.
In Jesus’ name. Amen.
The President, Lieutenant Governor Gilchrist, led
the members of the Senate in recital of the Pledge
of Allegiance.
