A bill to amend 1976 PA 451, entitled
"The revised school code,"
(MCL 380.1 to 380.1852) by adding section 1308a.
THE PEOPLE OF THE STATE OF MICHIGAN ENACT:
Sec. 1308a. (1) Beginning in the 2020 school year, the board
of a school district or intermediate school district, and the board
of directors of a public school academy shall obtain a safety
inspection of each school building from the department of state
police. A safety inspection under this subsection must include an
evaluation of the opportunities to protect against threats.
(2) The board of a school district or intermediate school
district, and the board of directors of a public school academy
shall obtain the safety inspection under subsection (1) not less
than once every 3 years.
(3) The department of state police shall provide a report of
the findings from a safety inspection to the board that obtained
the inspection under subsection (1).
Enacting section 1. This amendatory act takes effect 90 days
after the date it is enacted into law.
