CONTENT
The bill would amend the Michigan Election Law to require the Secretary of State (SOS), if the unofficial election returns showed that a presidential election was determined by a vote differential of less than 25,000 votes, to direct the boards of county canvassers to conduct an expedited canvass.
Under the Law, the Board of State Canvassers, for the purpose of canvassing the returns and ascertaining and determining the result of an election, must meet at the SOS on or before the twentieth day after the election.
If the unofficial election returns show that the election of electors of President and Vice President of the United States is determined by a vote differential between the first place and second place candidates of less than 25,000 votes, the SOS may direct the boards of county canvassers to canvass returns for electors on an expedited schedule.
The bill would require the Secretary of State, if the vote differential were less than 25,000 votes, to direct boards of county canvassers to canvass returns for electors on an expedited schedule.
The bill would take effect 90 days after its enactment.
