AMBULANCE TRANSPORT: POLICE DOGS S.B. 1234 (S-2):
SUMMARY OF BILL
REPORTED FROM COMMITTEE
Senate Bill 1234 (Substitute S-2 as reported)
CONTENT
The bill would amend the Public Health Code to specify that Part 209 (Emergency Medical Services) would not prohibit an ambulance from providing emergency transport of a police dog that was injured in the line of duty to a veterinary clinic or similar facility, if the police dog were in need of emergency medical treatment and there were no individuals who required transport or emergency assistance at that time.
"Police dog" would mean that term as defined in Section 50c of the Michigan Penal Code: a dog used by a law enforcement agency of the State or of a local unit of government of the State that is trained for law enforcement work and subject to the control of a dog handler.
