CONTENT
The bill would amend the Michigan Memorial Highway Act to designate the portion of Business Loop I-94 between the eastern and western city limits of the City of Battle Creek as the "Detective LaVern S. Brann Memorial Highway".
BACKGROUND
Detective LaVern Brann was shot and killed on May 9, 2005, while investigating the murder of a Battle Creek taxi driver. Detective Brann's partner, Detective Greg Huggett, was wounded in the shooting. In 2007, the shooter was convicted on a number of charges related to the killing of Detective Brann and sentenced to life in prison without parole. He later pleaded no contest to the murder of the taxi driver. Detective Brann had served with the Battle Creek Police Department for 20 years and was active in his community. He is survived by his wife and two children.
