Bishop Ben Gibert, Bishop of Detroit World Outreach in Redford, offered the following invocation:

“Psa 133:1-3 MKJV

(1) A Song of degrees; of David. Behold, how good and how pleasant it is for brothers to dwell together in unity!

(2) It is like the precious ointment on the head that ran down on the beard, Aaron’s beard, that went down to the mouth of his garments;

(3) like the dew of Hermon that came down on the mountains of Zion; for there Jehovah commanded the blessing, life forevermore.

Father we come to You today representing this great state of Michigan

We come

• Representing millions of people

• Hundreds of thousands of square miles

• Thousands of companies and churches and community organizations

• Numerous races and creeds

We know we are asking for things that only You can give- and we ask that You acknowledge our asking, our faith and our humility by answering us in clear and obvious ways

First God we thank You for giving each of us our roles and positions of influence – we realize that You have placed all of us in authority and reserve the right to control all authority

2nd God we ask for Your wisdom and insight into every situation that we face

We ask You to Grant us:

• Simple & Significant truth in places of complexity

• Bright Light in places of deep darkness

• Sufficient Strength in places of Dangerous weakness

• Help us to embrace the new where it is beneficial

• And to Hold to the old —-where it is critical for landmarks and foundations

• The ability to recognize character regardless of color /nationality/ or background

• The ability to recognize that diversity does not always have to mean division

Help us to find the unity that demands/ commands Your ‘commanded blessing’ of Psalm 133

3rd God — We ask You to specifically help us to:

• Protect our children

• Strengthen our families

• Honor our warriors and protectors

• Assist our Priests in reaching those with spiritual damage or alack

• Provide Education that will equip people for greatness

• Allocate resources with compassion, precision and divine stewardship

Finally God, we ask You to do the things that we are not intelligent or introspective enough to ask for:

-Operate in and through us and our assemblies

- Instruct us where we don’t know we are in error

- Humble us where we don’t know we are in pride

- Help us see in places where we don’t know that we are blind

I ask You for these things – acknowledging all of the true manifestations of Your love and power in the earth

In my life – The names of the Father – Son – and Holy Spirit

Amen.”

Motions and Resolutions

Reps. Kosowski, Kesto, Afendoulis, Cox, Crawford, Driskell, Heise, Hovey-Wright, Howrylak, Hughes, Iden, Kelly, LaFontaine, Lauwers, Leutheuser, Moss, Plawecki, Sarah Roberts, Runestad, Singh and Webber offered the following resolution:

House Resolution No. 61.

A resolution to declare April 24, 2015, as a Day of Remembrance in the state of Michigan for the Armenian Genocide of 1915-1923.

Whereas, Michigan Armenian Churches have been involved in numerous charity and community drives across the state, including, but not limited to, providing college scholarships for deserving students, and serving Armenian refugee communities across the state; and

Whereas, Between 1915 and 1923, Armenians were subject to torture, starvation, mass murder and exile from their historic homeland. Over 1.5 million Armenians lost their lives. The bulk of the Armenian population that was displaced from their homes was forced to escape to neighboring and far away communities. Many refugees fled to the United States. Today, Michigan is honored to be home to a vibrant Armenian-American population. This thriving community is a proud reminder of survival and determination even in the face of extreme injustices. The Armenian Genocide, also known as the “First Genocide of the Twentieth Century,” represented a deliberate attempt by the Ottoman Empire to eliminate all traces of a thriving, noble civilization; and

Whereas, Armenians communities all over the world commemorate this tragedy on April 24. On this day, we honor the victims and survivors of the genocide and reaffirm our commitment to preventing future atrocities from being committed against any people; now, therefore, be it

Resolved by the House of Representatives, That the members of this legislative body declare April 24, 2015, as a Day of Remembrance in the state of Michigan for the Armenian Genocide of 1915-1923.

The question being on the adoption of the resolution,
