            House Resolution No. 338.

            A resolution recognizing the 10th annual Michigan Conference on Affordable Housing: Partners Building Communities.

Whereas, Since 1998, the Michigan Conference on Affordable Housing has become the largest conference of its kind, attracting service providers, nonprofit and for-profit developers, government officials, and other leaders in the community development industry; and

Whereas, The conference offers an unmatched variety of programming aimed at educating participants and promoting the need for affordable housing including: asset building for families and individuals; community and economic development; creating and preserving multifamily housing; ending homelessness; homeownership; and organizational development; and

Whereas, The conference has supported efforts by the more than 5,000 members of the Living in Michigan Coalition to advocate for full funding for Michigan’s Housing & Community Development Fund and, as a result, the fund received its first appropriation of over $2 million; and

Whereas, The community and economic development industry strives to provide quality housing for all; create innovative strategies to develop vibrant and healthy communities; support and build main streets and commercial corridors to promote economic opportunity for distressed communities; advocate for programs and activities that improve neighborhoods and improve the quality of life; and help people create positive change in their lives; now, therefore, be it

Resolved by the House of Representatives, That the members of this legislative body recognize the 10th annual Michigan Conference on Affordable Housing: Partners Building Communities.  We recognize and applaud the efforts of the conference and its participants to enhance the quality of life in Michigan by working to provide quality affordable housing and vibrant stable communities for all its residents.
