House Bill 4668 (Substitute H-2)
Sponsor: Rep. Richard LeBlanc
Committee: Appropriations
Complete to 9-20-07
BRIEF SUMMARY: House Bill 4468 would allow the Department of State to continue charging a $30.00 fee for taking and processing fingerprints and eliminates language allowing a fee not to exceed $15.00 (which would have applied as of October 1, 2007 otherwise). The bill also contains a sunset provision allowing the $30.00 charge until October 1, 2010.
New language in Sec. (3) allows the Department to charge a fee of $10.00 for processing a name based criminal record check.
FISCAL IMPACT: HB 4468 would allow the Department to continue charging a $30.00 fee for fingerprint processing, continuing this stream of revenue. For FY2006, the amount of revenue collected for fingerprint processing was approximately $3.8 million. This funding is primarily used to maintain the Criminal Justice Information System.
The Department already charges a $10.00 fee for name based criminal record checks. The new language in Sec. (3) would simply provide statutory authority to charge this amount for these criminal record checks. For FY2006, the amount of revenue collected for name based criminal record checks was approximately $3.8 million, which is primarily used to maintain the Criminal Justice Information System.
