     A bill to amend 1967 PA 150, entitled

 

"Michigan military act,"

 

(MCL 32.501 to 32.851) by adding section 234.

 

THE PEOPLE OF THE STATE OF MICHIGAN ENACT:

 

     Sec. 234. Beginning 30 days from the effective date of the

 

amendatory act that added this section, the department shall make

 

available life insurance with a maximum death benefit of

 

$250,000.00 to all members of the Michigan national guard. The life

 

insurance made available to members of the Michigan national guard

 

shall be only for members of the Michigan national guard. The

 

insurance shall be obtained from the service members' group life

 

insurance program, and the monthly premium charged for life

 

insurance shall be uniform. Members of the Michigan national guard


 

called to perform in the service of the United States for a period

 

longer than 45 consecutive days under chapter 39 of title 10 of the

 

United States code who have elected to receive this life insurance

 

before being called to active service, shall have the monthly

 

premium charge waived for that period of active service, and the

 

legislature shall make an appropriation to cover the cost.
