A bill to prohibit the sale of cellular telephones and pagers
to certain minors without written parental consent; and to
prescribe civil sanctions.
THE PEOPLE OF THE STATE OF MICHIGAN ENACT:
Sec. 1. A person shall not sell a cellular telephone or pager
to an individual under 18 years of age without the written consent
of a parent or guardian of that individual. The written consent
shall be signed by the parent or legal guardian, and if the written
consent is not signed in the presence of the seller, the signature
shall be notarized.
Sec. 2. This act does not apply to an individual under 18
years of age who is an emancipated minor under section 4 of 1968 PA
293, MCL 722.4.
Sec. 3. A person who violates this act is responsible for a
state civil infraction and may be ordered to pay a civil fine of
not more than $500.00.
