A bill to require the department of labor and economic
growth to establish a jobs information service for urban
residents and suburban employers.
THE PEOPLE OF THE STATE OF MICHIGAN ENACT:
1 Sec. 1. As used in this act:
2 (a) "Suburban area" means a business or residential region
3 near an urban area.
4 (b) "Urban area" means an urbanized area as determined by the
5 economics and statistics administration, United States bureau of
6 the census, according to the 2000 federal decennial census.
7 Sec. 2. The department of labor and economic growth shall
8 establish a jobs information system that provides individuals
9 residing in each urban area in this state with employment
10 information about employers in each suburban area that is within
11 commuting distance to the urban area. At a minimum, the jobs
1 information system shall do all of the following:
2 (a) Identify the suburban area employers who have part-time
3 or full-time employment positions available, and include each
4 employer's address, telephone number, and, if applicable, e-mail
5 address.
6 (b) Describe the nature of the work for which each suburban
7 area employer is seeking employees, and identify the pay ranges
8 available for that work.
9 (c) Identify public transportation available between the
10 suburban area employer and the urban area.
