                                                                                 A bill to amend 1931 PA 328, entitled                                             

                                                                                

    "The Michigan penal code,"                                                  

                                                                                

    by amending section 227 (MCL 750.227), as amended by 1986 PA 8.             

                                                                                

                THE PEOPLE OF THE STATE OF MICHIGAN ENACT:                      

                                                                                

1       Sec. 227.  (1) A person shall not carry a dagger, dirk,                     

                                                                                

2   stiletto, a double-edged nonfolding stabbing instrument of any              

                                                                                

3   length, or any other dangerous weapon, except a hunting knife               

                                                                                

4   adapted and carried as  such  a hunting knife, concealed on or              

                                                                                

5   about his or her person, or, whether or not concealed,  or                  

                                                                                

6   otherwise  in any vehicle operated or occupied by the person,               

                                                                                

7   except in his or her dwelling house, place of business or on                

                                                                                

8   other land possessed by the person.                                         

                                                                                

9       (2) A person shall not carry a pistol concealed on or about                 

                                                                                

10  his or her person, or, whether or not concealed,  or otherwise,             

                                                                                

11  in a vehicle operated or occupied by the person, except in his or           

                                                                                


                                                                                

1   her dwelling house, place of business, or on other land possessed           

                                                                                

2   by the person, without a license to carry the pistol as provided            

                                                                                

3   by law and if licensed, shall not carry the pistol in a place or            

                                                                                

4   manner inconsistent with any restrictions upon  such  the                   

                                                                                

5   license.                                                                    

                                                                                

6       (3) A person shall not carry a firearm other than a pistol                  

                                                                                

7   concealed on or about his or her person, or, whether or not                 

                                                                                

8   concealed, in a vehicle operated or occupied by the person,                 

                                                                                

9   except in his or her dwelling house, place of business, or other            

                                                                                

10  land possessed by the person.                                               

                                                                                

11      (4)  (3)  A person who violates this section is guilty of a                 

                                                                                

12  felony  ,  punishable by imprisonment for not more than 5 years             

                                                                                

13  ,  or by a fine of not more than $2,500.00.
