A bill to amend 1961 PA 236, entitled
"Revised judicature act of 1961,"
by amending section 2919a (MCL 600.2919a).
THE PEOPLE OF THE STATE OF MICHIGAN ENACT:
1 Sec. 2919a. A person
damaged as a result of another
2 either or both of the following may recover 3 times the amount of
3 actual damages sustained, plus costs and reasonable attorney
4 fees, in addition to any other right or remedy:
5 (a) Another person's stealing or embezzling property or
6 converting property to the other person's own use.
7 (b) Another person's buying, receiving, possessing,
8 concealing, or aiding in
the concealment of any stolen,
9 embezzled, or converted property when the person buying,
10 receiving, possessing, concealing, or aiding in the concealment
11 of any stolen,
embezzled, or converted property knew that the
1 property was stolen,
embezzled, or converted. may recover 3
2 times the amount of
actual damages sustained, plus costs and
3 reasonable attorney's
fees. This remedy shall be in addition to
4 any other right or
remedy the person may have at law or
5 otherwise.
