A bill to amend 1954 PA 116, entitled
"Michigan election law,"
by amending section 509t (MCL 168.509t), as amended by 1998 PA
21.
THE PEOPLE OF THE STATE OF MICHIGAN ENACT:
1 Sec. 509t. (1) Notwithstanding any other provision of law
2 to the contrary, a person who is a qualified elector in this
3 state and who registers to vote in a manner consistent with the
4 national voter
registration act of 1993 , is considered a
5 registered voter under this act.
6 (2) A person who registers to vote in a jurisdiction in this
7 state by mail shall vote in person if that person has not
8 previously voted in person in that jurisdiction. This subsection
9 does not apply to any of the following registered voters:
10 (a) A person entitled to vote by absentee ballot under the
1 uniformed and overseas citizens absentee voting act, Public Law
2 99-410, 100 Stat. 924.
3 (b) A person who
has with a disability as defined in
4 section 103 of the persons with disabilities civil rights act,
5 1976 PA 220, MCL 37.1103.
, or
6 (c) A person who is 60 years of age or older.
7 (d) (c) A
person who is entitled to vote other than in
8 person under any other federal law.
9 (e) A person whose signature on the voter registration
10 application by mail is notarized.
11 (3) This section does not preclude this state from
12 prosecuting a violation of this act that is also a violation of
13 any federal election or voting rights law.
