HOUSE SUBSTITUTE FOR
SENATE BILL NO. 626
A bill to amend 1964 PA 208, entitled
"An act to grant scholarships to students enrolled in
postsecondary education institutions; and to provide for the
administration of the scholarship program,"
by amending section 7 (MCL 390.977), as amended by 1980 PA 500.
THE PEOPLE OF THE STATE OF MICHIGAN ENACT:
1 Sec. 7. (1) An applicant awarded a first-year scholarship
2 or a renewal scholarship shall
is not be restricted in the
3 choice of the institution in this state which he or she desires
4 to attend if the
institution is approved by the state board of
5 education superintendent of public instruction, except that
a
6 student shall not use a scholarship award at an institution whose
7 primary purpose is to prepare students for ordination or
8 appointment as a member of the clergy of a church, denomination,
9 or religious association, order, or sect. An applicant awarded a
10 first-year scholarship or
a renewal scholarship shall is not
1 be restricted in the choice of the course of study he or
she
2 wishes to pursue. ,
except that a scholarship award shall not be
3 made to a student
enrolled in a program of study leading to a
4 degree in theology,
divinity, or religious education.
5 (2) An approved
institution chosen by the applicant shall
6 is not be required
to accept the applicant for enrollment, or
7 once having admitted the applicant, to continue the applicant's
8 enrollment. The approved institution accepting the enrollment of
9 a state competitive scholarship award winner shall notify the
10 authority of the recipient's enrollment and shall submit annually
11 to the authority reports which are required and necessary to
12 administer this act.
