A SUMMARY OF HOUSE BILL 6244 AS INTRODUCED 9-29-04
The bill would amend Public Act 128 of 1887 to increase the fee for a marriage license from $20 to $30. The bill would also make numerous nonsubstantive changes of an editorial nature to update and clarify language in the act.
MCL 551.103
FISCAL IMPACT:
According to the Department of Community Health, there were 62,920 marriages in Michigan in 2002, of which 9,002 were in Wayne County, which is authorized by law to charge a marriage license fee differing from the amount otherwise provided by statute. If 63,000 marriage licenses were issued each year, and all were subject to the fee provided under the bill, the bill would generate approximately $630,000 in total additional revenue for the 83 counties.
