A SUMMARY OF HOUSE BILL 4934 AS INTRODUCED 7-2-03

House Bill 4934 would amend the General Property Tax Act to allow voters to reconsider a school millage if tax revenue was used for purposes other than that purpose described in the “clear statement of the purpose for the millage” that is currently required by law to appear on the ballot.

The bill specifies that if a school district or an intermediate school district (ISD) used revenue from a millage for a purpose other than the purpose that was stated on the ballot, the authorization for that millage could be reconsidered at the next general election, or at a special election called for that purpose, if not less than 10 percent of the qualified electors in the school district or intermediate school district petitioned the district to reconsider the millage.
