House Bill 4337

A SUMMARY OF HOUSE BILL 4337 AS INTRODUCED 3-12-03

House Bill 4337 would amend the Michigan Vehicle Code to revise the permissible noise level for a new motorcycle or moped.   Currently the law prohibits a dealer from selling a new motorcycle or a moped that produces a maximum noise in excess of 83 DBA.  Under the bill, a dealer could not sell a motorcycle or moped that produced noise in excess of 80 DBA.  [The Vehicle Code defines “DBA” or “decibels on the a-weighted network” to mean decibels measured on the a-weighted network of a sound level meter, as specified in American national standards institute standard S 1.4-1971.]
