House Bill 4274

Sponsor: Rep. Stephen Ehardt

Committee: Transportation

Complete to 2-26-03

A SUMMARY OF HOUSE BILL 4274 AS INTRODUCED 2-25-03

The bill would amend the Pupil Transportation Act to require emergency doors on type I school buses to be equipped with illuminated door handle assemblies. The handle assembly would have to emit a light and sound signal and change from AC to DC current when an emergency situation arose. The light emitted by the handle would have to be sufficient to allow a person to locate and determine how to open and shut the door.

(Note: "Type I school bus" means a school bus with a gross vehicle weight rating of more than 10,000 pounds.)
