A bill to amend 1927 PA 372, entitled "An act to regulate and license the selling, purchasing, possess- ing, and carrying of certain firearms and gas ejecting devices; to prohibit the buying, selling, or carrying of certain firearms and gas ejecting devices without a license or other authoriza- tion; to provide for the forfeiture of firearms under certain circumstances; to provide for penalties and remedies; to provide immunity from civil liability under certain circumstances; to prescribe the powers and duties of certain state and local agen- cies; to prohibit certain conduct against individuals who apply for or receive a license to carry a concealed pistol; to make appropriations; to prescribe certain conditions for the appropri- ations; and to repeal all acts and parts of acts inconsistent with this act," (MCL 28.421 to 28.435) by adding section 5z. THE PEOPLE OF THE STATE OF MICHIGAN ENACT: 1 SEC. 5Z. (1) SECTION 5o DOES NOT APPLY TO A FORMER PEACE 2 OFFICER. 3 (2) AS USED IN THIS SECTION: 02946'01 * JJG 2 1 (A) "FORMER PEACE OFFICER" MEANS AN INDIVIDUAL WHO WAS 2 EMPLOYED AS A PEACE OFFICER FOR 5 YEARS OR MORE AND WHO IS 3 OTHERWISE ELIGIBLE TO POSSESS A FIREARM UNDER THIS ACT. 4 (B) "PEACE OFFICER" MEANS ANY OF THE FOLLOWING: 5 (i) A COUNTY SHERIFF OR SHERIFF'S DEPUTY. 6 (ii) A POLICE OFFICER OF THE DEPARTMENT OF STATE POLICE OR 7 OF A CITY, VILLAGE, OR TOWNSHIP OF THIS STATE. 8 (iii) A POLICE OFFICER OR PUBLIC SAFETY OFFICER OF A JUNIOR 9 COLLEGE, COLLEGE, OR UNIVERSITY OF THIS STATE WHO IS RESPONSIBLE 10 FOR THE PREVENTION AND DETECTION OF CRIME AND THE ENFORCEMENT OF 11 THE GENERAL CRIMINAL LAWS OF THIS STATE AND WHO IS AUTHORIZED BY 12 THAT JUNIOR COLLEGE, COLLEGE, OR UNIVERSITY TO CARRY A FIREARM IN 13 THE COURSE OF HIS OR HER DUTIES AS A POLICE OFFICER OR PUBLIC 14 SAFETY OFFICER. 15 (iv) A CONSERVATION OFFICER OF THE DEPARTMENT OF NATURAL 16 RESOURCES OR THE DEPARTMENT OF ENVIRONMENTAL QUALITY WHO IS 17 AUTHORIZED TO CARRY A FIREARM IN THE COURSE OF HIS OR HER DUTIES 18 AS A CONSERVATION OFFICER. 19 (v) A FEDERAL LAW ENFORCEMENT OFFICER WHO IS AUTHORIZED TO 20 CARRY A CONCEALED PISTOL IN THE COURSE OF HIS OR HER DUTIES AS A 21 FEDERAL LAW ENFORCEMENT OFFICER. 02946'01 * Final page.
