A bill to amend 1909 PA 283, entitled "An act to revise, consolidate, and add to the laws relating to the establishment, opening, discontinuing, vacating, closing, altering, improvement, maintenance, and use of the public high- ways and private roads; the condemnation of property and gravel therefor; the building, repairing and preservation of bridges; maintaining public access to waterways under certain conditions; setting and protecting shade trees, drainage, and cutting weeds and brush within this state; providing for the election or appointment and defining the powers, duties, and compensation of state, county, township, and district highway officials; and to prescribe penalties and provide remedies," by amending section 22 (MCL 224.22). THE PEOPLE OF THE STATE OF MICHIGAN ENACT: 1 Sec. 22. Whenever IF the board of supervisors of the 2 county by a majority vote of all the members elect ELECTED TO 3 AND SERVING resolve to contract indebtedness or issue bonds to 4 raise money for the construction and maintenance of county roads, 5 the question shall be submitted to a vote of the electors of the 6 county at a general or a special election called for that 03419'01 JLB 2 1 purpose. Notice of the submission of such THE resolution to a 2 vote of the electors and, in case a special election is called, 3 notice of the calling of such THE special election shall be 4 given in the same manner and for the same length of time as now 5 prescribed PROVIDED by law. If a majority of the electors 6 voting on such THE resolution shall vote in favor thereof 7 OF THE RESOLUTION, it shall be deemed CONSIDERED to have 8 carried. The manner of stating the question upon the ballots 9 shall be prescribed by the resolution of the board of 10 supervisors. No bond or evidence of indebtedness shall be nego- 11 tiated at less than par and the accrued interest. All money 12 raised by the board of supervisors for the construction and main- 13 tenance of county roads shall be expended under the direction of 14 the board of county road commissioners.
