RELEASE OF WORKERS' COMP. INFO. - H.B. 6005: FLOOR ANALYSIS
House Bill 6005 (as reported without amendment)
Sponsor: Representative Clark Bisbee
House Committee: Civil Law and the Judiciary
Senate Committee: Families, Mental Health and Human Services
CONTENT
The bill would amend the Worker's Disability Compensation Act to require the Bureau of Worker's and Unemployment Compensation, despite the Act's confidentiality provisions, to release information to the State's Title IV-D agency for use in the establishment and enforcement of support orders as required under the Support and Parenting Time Enforcement Act.
(Title IV-D of the Federal Social Security Act requires states to have a program to secure child support from legal parents with the financial ability to pay. Title IV-D requires the state program to provide services to recipients of public assistance and to others, upon request. The state agency that administers the child support program is designated as the Title IV-D agency. The Office of Child Support, within the Family Independence Agency, is Michigan's Title IV-D agency.
The Bureau of Worker's and Unemployment Compensation includes the former Bureau of Worker's Disability Compensation, which is referred to in the bill.)
The bill would take effect on June 1, 2003.
