CONTENT


The bill would amend the Revised Judicature Act (RJA) to prohibit an individual from bringing a civil action for injury or resulting death that arose from conduct by that individual that resulted in his or her conviction, guilty plea, or plea of nolo contendere (no contest) to a crime under State or Federal law or a local ordinance substantially corresponding to a crime under State law.

BACKGROUND


Public Act 176 of 2000 amended the RJA to require the dismissal of a civil lawsuit brought for personal injury or death that occurred as a result of the plaintiff's participation in or flight from a felony or his or her actions or flight from actions that constitute the elements of a felony.
