A SUMMARY OF HOUSE BILL 6140 AS INTRODUCED 5-28-02

House Bill 6140 would amend the handgun licensure act (MCL 28.425n), which regulates the carrying of concealed pistols and other weapons, to allow an employee of either the state or a political subdivision of the state to carry a concealed pistol when performing required inspections on private property, if he or she is licensed under the act. The act currently allows, and the bill would continue to allow, a police agency to prohibit its employees from carrying concealed pistols if doing so would result in increased insurance premiums or a loss or a reduction of insurance coverage for the agency.
