A SUMMARY OF HOUSE BILL 4689 AS INTRODUCED 5-1-01

The bill would amend the Public Health Code to exclude tongue piercing from the code's definition of "body piercing" ("the perforation of human tissue other than an ear for a nonmedical purpose"), define "tongue piercing" to mean "the perforation of a human tongue for a nonmedical purpose," and to prohibit an individual from performing tongue-piercing on another individual unless the individual performing the tongue-piercing were a licensed health professional whose license allowed him or her to perform a surgical procedure in the human mouth.
