RECREATIONAL VEHICLE LENGTH - H.B. 5140: FLOOR ANALYSIS
House Bill 5140 (as reported without amendment)
Sponsor: Representative Scott Shackleton
House Committee: Transportation
Senate Committee: Transportation and Tourism
CONTENT
The bill would amend the Michigan Vehicle Code to increase from 59 feet to 65 feet the length of certain pickup trucks that tow a semitrailer designed for recreational purposes as well as an additional trailer or semitrailer.
Currently, a pickup truck with a towing rating equal to, or greater than, the weight being towed, equipped with a fifth wheel assembly that conforms with the standards prescribed in the Motor Carrier Safety Act, towing attached with a semitrailer designed for recreational living purposes, may tow an additional trailer or semitrailer under certain conditions, including that the total length of the pickup truck, recreational semitrailer, and additional trailer or semitrailer, and load, does not exceed 59 feet. Under the bill, the length could not exceed 65 feet on any highways in the State.
