KEEPING FARM ANIMALS - S.B. 49 (S-1): FLOOR ANALYSIS

CONTENT
The bill would amend the County Zoning Act to provide that a zoning ordinance adopted under the Act could not prohibit the keeping of farm animals on a parcel of at least 40 acres, but could limit the number of farm animals kept on the parcel consistent with generally accepted agricultural and management practices as defined in the Michigan Right to Farm Act including, but not limited to, a manure management system. The bill specifies that it would not require a zoning ordinance to prohibit or limit the keeping of farm animals on a parcel of less than 40 acres.
