A SUMMARY OF HOUSE BILL 5956 AS INTRODUCED 9-26-00

House Bill 5956 would amend the Michigan Vehicle Code to require the use of headlights when operating windshield wipers on a motor vehicle.

Currently, a vehicle must display lighted lamps and illuminating devices at any time from a half hour after sunset to a half hour before sunrise, and at any other time when there is not sufficient light to render clearly discernible the people and the vehicles on the highway at a distance of 500 feet ahead. House Bill 5956 would retain these provisions but require in addition that lighted lamps and illuminating devices be displayed when weather conditions require the operation of the windshield wipers.
