A SUMMARY OF HOUSE BILL 5542 AS INTRODUCED 3-23-00

House Bill 5542 would amend the Township Zoning Act to specify that a shelter for domestic violence victims, with or without their children, be considered a residential use for the purpose of zoning, and as a permitted use in all residential zones, including those zoned single family. Under the bill, the shelter could not be subject to a special use or conditional use permit or procedure that was different from those required for other dwellings of similar density in the same zone. Finally, House Bill 5542 would define "domestic violence" to mean that term as defined in section 21072 of the Public Health Code.
