The bill would amend the Public Health Code to require, as a condition of licensure, that a hospital ensure that the members of its governing body be representative of the community served by the hospital. Under the bill, "community" would mean a city, township, village, or county, or a combination of one or more of those local governmental units. Further, the bill would require one board member to be a nonmanagerial employee of the hospital. The nonmanagerial employees of a hospital would have to elect this member in a secret ballot election conducted at the hospital.
