A SUMMARY OF HOUSE BILL 4116 AS INTRODUCED 2-2-99

Public Act 235 of 1911 authorizes counties to provide a $300 burial allowance for veterans or their wives if the veteran or his wife had an estate not exceeding $25,000 ("over and above all encumbrances"). The bill would increase the allowable estate amount by $5,000 (that is, to $30,000) and would replace references to "wife" and "widow" with "spouse" and "surviving spouse," respectively.
