A SUMMARY OF HOUSE BILL 4002 AS INTRODUCED 1-13-99

House Bill 4002 would amend the Revised School Code to require that an official of a school district notify the appropriate county Family Independence Agency or county community mental health agency within 12 hours when a student is armed with a dangerous weapon in a weapon free school zone. The agency would be required to evaluate and counsel the student for 48 hours at its facility. The school official also would be required to notify the student's parent (or legal guardian) and to refer the parent to the same counseling agency. During the 48-hour evaluation and counseling period, the agency would to be required to determine whether further individual or family counseling, or both, is required.
